Ice Hockey World Championship: Canada shoots down Slovakia

Defending champions Canada also won their third game at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland and are on course for the quarter-finals.

The record world champion, who had previously defeated Germany (5:3) and Italy (6:1), defeated the Olympic bronze medalist Slovakia 5:1 (1:1, 2:0, 2:0) in Helsinki on Monday.

Hosts Finland also celebrated their third win in three games. In Group B, the Finns easily defeated the USA 4:1 (1:0, 3:0, 0:1), for the Americans it was the first defeat. Latvia beat Norway 3-2 (1-1, 2-0, 0-1) in Tampere and got the first three-pointer.

Adam Lowry (11th), Pierre-Luc Dubois (27th, 38th) with his tournament goals three and four, Cole Sillinger (42nd) and Morgan Geekie (52nd), in the NHL teammate of DEB goalie Philipp Grubauer the Seattle Kraken, scored the goals for the 27-time champions from Canada.

Samuel Takac (13th) equalized with a number goal for Slovakia, who suffered their first defeat on Saturday in a 2-1 draw against the German Ice Hockey Federation.
