Ice hockey, DEL: setback for the DEG – Barta with anniversary game

The Düsseldorfer EG has lost in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) against leaders Munich. Alexander Barta made his 1,000th game. Bietigheim managed a surprise.

Just two days after Moritz Müller, Alexander Barta also joined the 1,000 club in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), but experienced a disappointment. With the Düsseldorfer EG, the former national player lost to the leaders EHC Munich on Sunday afternoon (February 26, 2023) in his anniversary game 1: 2 (1: 1, 0: 0, 0: 1).

As fifth in the table, DEG (89 points) lost valuable points for direct quarter-final qualification. And the pursuers scored: The Grizzlys Wolfsburg beat the Adler Mannheim (3:2 aet), the Kölner Haie took a point from the defeat at the Straubing Tigers (3:4 aet).

Bottom of the table Bietigheim Steelers beat the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 5:2 (0:2, 4:0, 1:0), the penultimate Augsburg Panthers won 2:1 (0:0, 1:0, 0:1, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout.

Gogulla next in the club

In Düsseldorf, Andreas Eder made the decision late (58th). Before that, Jonathan Blum (16th) equalized the DEG lead through Bernhard Ebner (10th). Barta remained without a scorer point.

The DEG captain made his DEL debut in the 2000/01 season in the jersey of the Eisbären Berlin. After that, the now 40-year-old played in the league for the Hamburg Freezers, Munich and ERC Ingolstadt. In 2016, the striker went to Düsseldorf.

Barta’s teammate Philip Gogulla (35) completes the 1,000 games in the home game against the Schwenninger Wild Wings on Tuesday. Haie captain Müller celebrated an 8-2 thrashing of the Iserlohn Roosters in his anniversary game with Cologne on Friday.
