Two-goal lead wasted in just two minutes and after a penalty shoot-out there was still celebration: The Adler Mannheim experienced an eventful evening in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

The Adler Mannheim got an away win in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on Tuesday (November 29th, 2022) despite conceding a very late goal and reduced the gap to the top. The title candidate won at newly promoted Löwen Frankfurt 4:3 (1:1, 1:0, 1:2, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout.

Adler Mannheim gambled away the lead and still won

The Adler, who are playing the open-air “Winter Game” against the Kölner Haie in the soccer stadium of Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln on Saturday, led by two goals two minutes before the end of regular time – and had to go into extra time.

But first things first: David Elsner gave Frankfurt an early lead (9′) before Mannheim turned the game around after goals from Matthias Plachta (20’/44′) and Nigel Dawes (27′). Then Chad Nehring (59th) and Jerry D’Amigo (60th) scored for the lions from Frankfurt and forced the extra time.

In the penalty shoot-out, Mannheim’s Dawes made the decision with his second goal of the evening.

Nuremberg passes Dusseldorf

The Düsseldorfer EG lost the duel of the table neighbors against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 2:4 (1:1, 1:0, 0:3) and had to let the Franks pass after the third bankruptcy in a row.

ERC Ingolstadt beat Grizzlies Wolfsburg 3:2 (0:1, 1:1, 1:0, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout and thus consolidated their third place in the table.
