Martijn Krabbé is apparently very strong despite his terminal illness, but what about his private life? Is he in bag and ash or is it not too bad? His younger brother Jakob reveals it …
Jakob Krabbé (42), the much younger brother of Martijn Krabbé (57), can sometimes still not realize that a terminal diagnosis has been pronounced. Martijn has been living back for a while now. “Yes, you can’t do that much. Just nothing actually, except for him and hope. Accept what is there …”, he says in the Weekend.
‘Very special’
Martijn’s TV work has already been taken over. His most viewed program, The Voice of Holland, goes to Edson da Graça. The presenter seems to be reasonably left under the situation. Is that correct?
That’s right, says Jakob. “Yes, that is not normal dude! I have never seen anything like that. That is very nice for the environment, but of course it remains terrible. I don’t think I could do that, no, I would be different. So that is very special.”
“Who’s there for you?”
Yet, according to Jakob, there is also a downside. “He just keeps going. He doesn’t give up. For him, that disease is actually just not there. For the environment that is nice – he actually drags it through it.”
He continues: “Anyway, then I sometimes worry about him. I think: yes, but you have to deal with it. It’s very nice that you are there for everyone, but let us be there for you.”
Father figure
What is the bond between Jakob and Martijn? “Of course he is my big brother, that’s a band forever. Yes, I used to look up at him. He is fifteen years older than me.”
That is almost impossible, he concludes. “Martijn has actually been a sort of second father for me, because there is such an age difference. He is very important to me.”
