Vesa-Matti Loirin son, Sampo Loiri, 26, carried his father’s coffin on Tuesday at St John’s Church in Helsinki. He left the church door to watch the car leaving for the Hietaniemi crematorium with the rest of the invited guests who were at the blessing ceremony.

Grief-stricken, but also relieved, Sampo said a few words to Iltalehte right after the blessing ceremony in front of the church.

– An opportunity that looks exactly like a father’s, he is satisfied. The atmosphere was beautiful, warm and delicate, but also powerful. I want to honor my father’s memory with my own life and carry it, Sampo said.

Gratitude

Loir’s ex-wife, Riitta Loiri, also attended the funeral. The ex-married couple had two children during the union, in 1979 Jenni-daughter and in 1982 Jonas-son. In 2019, Joonas died of an illness at the age of 37.

Riitta Loiri thanked the atmosphere of the blessing ceremony and all the attendants.

Riitta and Vesku got married in 1978 and divorced in 1989.

– Gratitude is uppermost in my mind now, and the atmosphere and program of the occasion was Vesa-Mat in every way, Riitta told the sacristy of St. John’s Church, and she also received support from the church’s pastor, Father From them.
