Albert Verlinde himself never watched Today Inside before he appeared as a table guest. “In the past I have sometimes called the program Homohaat Laat.”
It is incredible how quickly Albert Verlinde has become an important link in Today Inside. The founder of RTL Boulevard knows better than anyone how to make exciting television and after being a regular table guest for a while, he will start tomorrow as a regular Wednesday Gijp. He will do the honors of René van der Gijp for a day every week.
For a year
Albert puts his villainous side to full use at VI. “I can make comments with a certain tone or look. I also do that at Today Inside. That’s my theater background. I know how to use my voice and eyes, so that something quite spicy can come into the living room,” he says in conversation with New Revu.
Actually, he didn’t want to do VI at all at first. “Wilfred Genee tried for a year to persuade me. I didn’t feel like doing that, because if I say something, I have to spend two days afterward with aftercare. I finally said yes once and that immediately felt like coming home.”
‘Never looked myself’
Albert himself was not a regular VI viewer. “I never actually watched it myself, in the past I have sometimes called the program Homohaat Laat, but what I like about it is that there is always something happening. That was always the case at RTL Boulevard.”
“I often compared that to a television match where you don’t dare go to the kitchen, because you’re afraid that a goal will be scored when you’re gone. Today Inside is exciting, fun live television. That’s why I feel comfortable there, but because of the aftercare, not more than twice a month.”
‘When again?’
Huh, twice a month? Yes, Albert gave this interview just before it was announced that he would be the regular Wednesday Gijp. In any case, the viewer seems to think it is good news. “What I mainly hear is: ‘When will you be back?’ And I don’t just hear that from men, as I first thought. The audience is very diverse. From gardeners to flight attendants.”
“I was recently on a KLM plane and a flight attendant said: ‘When will I see you again at Today Inside? I’m always watching.’ Since RTL Boulevard I have not done a program that has received such a positive response.”
