Background: time out and military service
In March 2022, BTS announced a longer break that made it possible to complete their mandatory military service in South Korea and at the same time pursue solo activities as musicians.
Jin was the first to move in in December 2022 and was also the first to be released in June of this year. A few months later, J-Hope followed, who told the Rolling Stone that the time was “invaluable”. He said: “The thoughts I had during this time have become an inseparable part of me, they fed and shaped me. Ultimately, they influence the stories that I tell and the music I want to do.” At the beginning of June 2025, RM and V ended their service, followed by Jungkoook and Jimin. Suga was released just a few days later.
