“I have become more executive”

“The opportunity that Barça has given Xavi, he is responding very well. He is responding very well, he knows the club, he respects the club’s decisions. He has personality and is not influenced”. Joan Laporta, the president of Barça, has passed balance of his first year. And the leader wanted to dwell on the figure of the technician who relieved Koemann, fired at the end of last October. “He is a worker and a soccer sufferer. I am very satisfied to have a coach like Xavi, it’s for many years and it will give us a lot of joy”, Laporta underlined in an institutional interview granted to Barça TV.

“I would have swapped Xavi for Koeman earlier. I should have listened to my intuition. The decision was good because we have improved. The best thing about this year is seeing how Xavi has changed the team’s mentality”, stated the Barça manager.

“A new stage has begun that I hope will be splendid. We are doing it with young people, with people from home, who already have a present and have a much better future. The ambition is to make a team for many years that wins many titles”, the leader has indicated, acknowledging that “we have hope and that is what all the culés want”.

I do not want a very hierarchical club where it is sometimes difficult to make decisions”.

In this sense, the president explained that “there will be an executive committee, which will be held every Monday. And each month there will be a management committee.” For Laporta “these are times to clench your teeth and make important decisions & rdquor ;. Hence, he has modified the way of managing the club coinciding with his first anniversary in the presidency.

“Barça should always be the property of its partners. We find ourselves with, depending on which sponsors, they give that an extraordinary value and we must maintain it”, he stressed. “We must maintain it for romanticism and also for our own interest. I have discussions in that sense about whether it should be a public limited company, I can live with it. And it has happened to me. But I am a lawyer, I can understand certain reasons, but I don’t share them”, specified the Barça leader.

“You make a public limited company, you take 20% or 30% to the stock market, as some who defend them say. You capitalize with 2,000 million, but if we don’t set the same rules for everyone, these state clubs will have 8,000. If we put 4,000 they will put 16,000. This is not the problem. A well-managed club, with a legal form like ours, can continue perfectly. I am a defender of Barça always being the owner of its members. I do not see other modalities, they would get us out of what we are”.
