The quarter-final secondary against Inter Milan became Thomas Müller’s last Champions League game for Bayern. He therefore did not become sentimental.

In the end it was briefly emotional. When Thomas Müller left the place of the Giuseppe-Mazza Stadium after his Bavaria in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, FC Bayern fans were still there. With loud applause and Müller calls, they said goodbye to their club icon, who had played the last game in the royal class in the jersey of the German record champions in the 2-2 (first leg 1: 2) against Inter Milan.

“The body reacted briefly with a hint of goose bumps,” said Müller later in the mixed zone of the arena about this moment. “I couldn’t think much about it, it just came. I felt the appreciation and that was pretty,” continued Müller.

Previously, the 35-year-old had given himself in the TV interview at the transmission streaming service DAZN emphasized. “I don’t feel that emotionally,” he said. The defeat was disappointing, but the team fought well. There have also been many opportunities against a defensively strong interior. “If someone goes in in the last five minutes, then we’ll open the goal again and then we may be here, but everything is okay,” said Müller.

When asked about his family, who followed the game from the stands, Müller said: “It is probably more emotional for them than for me.” He enjoys fighting for victory on the square. “You can’t get the result anyway,” said Müller.

His teammates were aware of the situation. Of all things, his 163rd Champions League game, with which he equated in the eternal ranking with Lionel Messi, should be his last for FC Bayern. “I already have the feeling that the boys came to me again,” Müller described the reaction of his teammates to the situation. “It is also a nice feeling that they have a feel that it was my last game here in the Champions League, but I also have to say that I don’t expect anything because I also know how much you do. The boys have to fight themselves,” continued Müller.

The numbers of 163 games, 57 goals and 34 templates also left him cold. “The only thing it means and what I enjoy looking back is that I have always managed to assert myself internally and to be able to contribute again and again,” he said. “I am pleased that I had so much fun here and I made it that a few others also had fun because of me. This is what is going on in me and the rest will show the future, but I’m relatively relaxed there.”

So far, Müller has not been able to say whether he actually has a future in the premier class. According to his own statement, he does not yet know where it is going in summer: “I actually don’t know the planning yet. I have not driven anything here during the hot weeks. It doesn’t matter what comes now,” said Müller clearly.
