Maarten van Rossem can be seen crying on television for the first time. In the Wintertime program, his eyes swell, tears appear, and then a paper handkerchief emerges.

Harry de Winter is terminally ill and that is why he returns one more time with the interview program almost 23 years after the start of Winter Time. The new series starts tomorrow and Maarten van Rossem is a guest in the season premiere. He treats the retiring talk show host to a pretty intense cry.

“Turn this off!”

The fragment of the crying Maarten was already shown last night in the talk show of Eva Jinek. The jury member of De Slimste Mens is confronted by Harry with a classical piece of music. Maarten immediately shoots full. “Yeah, turn this off. I can not stand that.”

Harry: “No, because? What happens then?”

Maarten: “I am moved.”

Harry: “Yeah, but that’s okay, isn’t it?”

Maarten: “No, yes, you can say that, but of course we have to keep driving on the rails. This is all kinds of music that I play when I’m alone. It’s terrible.”

Harry: “But terribly beautiful?”

Maarten: “Yes, terribly beautiful, yes. That’s very different from pop music, isn’t it? Sometimes there is something that moves me, but this has an almost immediate effect. It also gets worse as you get older.”

Jealous

After the fragment, Eva asks Harry if Maarten’s tears also affect him emotionally. “Nice. Are you also moved?”

Harry denies: “Yes and I will secretly say something about that: I am very jealous of that, because I do not cry. I haven’t cried since my son was born. That was 35 years ago. I want it, but I don’t. It’s not going to happen, it’s not happening.”

winter time

Winter time with a crying Maarten van Rossem can be seen tomorrow evening at 10.05 pm on NPO 2. Other guests in the upcoming series are Chantal Janzen, Jan Slagter and Hedy d’Ancona.

In the last episode, the roles are reversed and Harry himself tells his life story to Jeroen Pauw, complete with his favorite music.
