Surrounding buildings have been evacuated due to smoke development. The garage is located underneath the European headquarters of sports brand Nike.
The fire was discovered around 10:55 am. Hundreds of employees who were present in the Nike office building have been evacuated and are standing outside.
The parking garage is full of smoke. The fire brigade is currently fighting the fire with several fire brigades from the area. The battery in the hybrid car cannot be extinguished with normal materials. According to the spokesperson, a ‘cobra cutter’ is required for this. “That is a machine that can penetrate the battery of a hybrid or electric car. We can then extinguish and cool it.” The fire brigade has called in reinforcements from Utrecht. That force takes extra vehicles and the ‘cobra cutter’ with it.
The fire brigade calls via X to close windows and doors and turn off ventilation in case of smoke nuisance. The spokesperson said that “there are no victims in the picture.” It is not yet known whether other cars in the parking garage have been damaged.
