HV Volendam would like to surprise with a new trainer: “Seriously resist”

Prior to the new handball season, the question is always how the four North Holland women’s teams in the Eredivisie have emerged from the summer break. Which changes have taken place and what are the objectives? Today attention for HV Volendam.

Zsigmond Makay hopes to be able to seriously resist the bigger teams – NH Sport

Volendam has a new trainer at the helm this year. Zsigmond Makay came over from PhD student Velo and is the successor of Serge Ter Horst in the fishing village. The new experienced Hungarian trainer must turn the Volendam women’s team into a stable premier divisionist.

Enthusiastic

“I immediately had a good conversation with Volendam. I have the feeling that things are much more professional here than with my previous team. Handball is considerably faster here and everyone is enthusiastic,” said Makay about his transition from Velo in Wateringen to Volendam.

“Of course we want to finish as high as possible with Volendam. I’ve been working with the team for four weeks now and we’ve played two practice matches,” says Makay. “The competition will start in a week. We are definitely not far enough yet, but I am confident that we can offer serious resistance.”

Zsigmond Makay about his choice for HV Volendam – NH Sport

A big loss for Makay’s team is the departure of Pien van der Geest. The right-hand structure, born in Beverwijk, is moving to fellow provincial VZV from ‘t Veld. “That’s all fine. I didn’t know her. So that doesn’t mean anything to me,” says Makay jokingly about Van der Geest’s departure. “I always try to tell my players that it doesn’t matter who is facing you. You have to rely on your own strength. Don’t look at the opponent.”

The new season for Makay and HV Volendam starts on Saturday 3 September with an away match against DSVD from Deurningen.
