For the handball players of HV Volendam, the second game against Lions is scheduled for the national title this afternoon. “I think the ratios will be 50/50, with us having the home advantage. Just like last week, I expect an exciting match”, coach Geert Hinskens looks ahead.
HV Volendam started strong against Lions in Limburg last week, but still lost (28-25). As a result, the national championship is decided in the best of three series, if Volendam loses again. “This is our seventh game against them. We don’t have very big secrets from each other, so I expect it to be decided on details. I hope we can last a little longer compared to last week. Then we are good enough for a decision game.”

It will not be the support for the handball players, Hinskens knows. “The passionate encouragement in Limburg was already beautiful. It’s a nice thought that so many people are traveling to the other side of the country. I think it will be even better tomorrow in terms of ambiance, because we play in our own hall.” Despite the beautiful weather, Sporthal Opperdam will be packed with spectators. “It’s almost sold out.”
The kick-off is at 3.15 pm in Volendam. If the Volendam handball players win, the decisive match for the national championship will be against Lions on Sunday 18 June.
