Hurry-Up misses chances of victory against Volendam

Hurry-Up drew the short straw on a visit to Kras/Volendam. The team from Zwartemeer created many opportunities, but still had to lose out against the Volendam team, who are still fully participating in the battle for the play-offs for the championship. The Drenthe lost 23-21 and remain in the middle of the BENE-League.

Missed too many opportunities

Due to a corona infection of Joop Hiege, Martin de Hoop took the honors as a coach today. De Hoop saw a team with too little return in the first half: “Defensively we did well, but we scored too little”. Due to the lack of goals, the Zwartemeerders quickly faced an 8-3 deficit. In the remainder of the first half, the teams were very evenly matched, but Volendam went into halftime with a 14-9 lead.

Good luck second half

Hurry-Up came out of the locker room best after the break. The Croatian keeper Boris Tot took the team by the hand with some beautiful saves and the defensive block also stood his ground. Hurry-Up quickly narrowed the gap to two points. Halfway through the second half, the Volendam team received two time penalties in quick succession. Hurry-Up just didn’t manage to take full advantage of this. The Zwartemeerders remained on two points for the remainder of the game. Despite the many possibilities, they still had to recognize their superior in Volendam, with the final score 23-21.

With two games to play, Hurry-Up remains in sixth place for the time being. They already have no chance of making the play-offs for the championship. Next week they will receive another mid-range rider in Zwartemeer, HC Visé BM from Wezet in Belgium.
