Sun breaks through

After the church service, around a quarter past twelve, the coffin is slowly carried to the car. People lay flowers along the way. It is cold and icy, but when the coffin is placed in the car, the sun breaks through.

Two ladies noticed this. “I thought that was so beautiful. As if he gave a sign and said: I’m here, it’s okay,” says one. The other nods. “That was beautiful.”

The ladies seem to know each other, but have only just met. “We both have a son with a disability. Mine also ran away several times, which required a search. Fortunately, that ended well, but the fear you go through is unbearable. You sympathize enormously with these people,” says one.

The other adds: “It is so sad and also recognizable. That is why we are here, to show our compassion.”
