This afternoon the Dutch human rights ambassador, Wim Geerts, spoke with members of the Kenyan Diaspora. The conversation was about the human rights situation in Kenya and the planned state visit of the royal couple to the country in March.
During the interview, the ambassador received a petition in which it was called to not let the state visit go through the human rights situation in Kenya. The ambassador discussed the criticism and listened to the concerns that live among Kenyans in the Netherlands.
Ambassador Wim Geerts: ‘It’s good to hear what worries are playing and talking about this. That also helps me to do my job better. The Netherlands is talking about this subject in all sorts of ways. This will also be given a place during the state visit, in which both the Kenyan authorities and social organizations and young people will be spoken. “
Ambassador Wim Geerts will travel to Kenya this month to start a conversation with young people, civil society, human rights defenders and the Kenyan authorities.
