French soccer player Hugo Lloris, 36, ends his national team career. Lloris announced his decision on Monday.

The goalkeeper, who made his debut in the French national team in 2008, played a total of 145 matches. He captained France when the team won the World Cup in 2018.

Lloris saved France with a goal in four adult World Cups and three EC tournaments. He was about to win the under-19 European Championship in 2005.

– There will come a time when you have to know how to pass the scepter forward. I have said time and time again that the French national team does not belong to anyone. All of us, especially me, have to make sure that this is the case,” Lloris told L’Equipe, according to Reuters.

At the same time, Llloris gave his views on who will be his successor.

– The team is ready to move on. There is already a goalkeeper who is ready. Mike Maignan.

Lloris represents Tottenham at club level.

27-year-old Maignan has gone through the French junior national team path. He only has five international matches.
