He has been in the club continuously since 2015, and before that he was already sitting on the bench with the Hamburgers. Now Tom Mickel puts an end.

After climbing to the Bundesliga, Tom Mickel draws a line under his active career. The 36-year-old goalkeeper of Hamburger SV ends his career-after a total of over 13 years with the north Germans. The club praised him as a “absolute figure of identification” and “unconditional team player”.

Mickel moved from Energie Cottbus to Hamburg in 2009, left HSV in early 2013 in the direction of SpVgg Greuther Fürth and returned in summer 2015. In addition to Bakery Jatta, he was one of only two players in the current promotion squad who had already gained Bundesliga experience with the HSV.

Only six missions – but great support

For the professionals of HSV, Mickel played a total of six competitive games-spread over the Bundesliga, second division and DFB Cup. Nevertheless, he enjoyed great reputation in the club and always put himself in the service of the team.

In the course of his time in Hamburg, he competed with several well -known goalkeepers – including Frank Rost, René Adler and most recently Daniel Heuer Fernandes. After the Bundesliga promotion, the longest-serving professional now says goodbye to active football.
