HSV: Sonny Kittel explains failed MLS transfer – “Too many problems”

Next HSV instead of DC United

Sonny Kittel, top scorer at Hamburger SV, spoke about his failed move to Major League Soccer and the reasons for his staying on the Elbe. A transfer to DC United only seemed a matter of form, but HSV surprisingly announced that Kittel would be available for a fourth attempt at the long-awaited return to the Bundesliga.

“I’m generally my biggest critic and I was also disappointed in myself. As in every transfer period, you then sit down with your advisor and discuss your further career path. Now there was a constellation that was simply interesting for me, although I feel very comfortable at HSV, ”said Kittel in an interview on the club website of the second division.

“But the offer from the USA was very good, which is why the thoughts came up. Because of my injury history and with only one year left on my contract, it would have been stupid and naive if I hadn’t dealt with it,” said the attacking midfielder, who scored 30 goals and 33 assists for Hamburg in 104 competitive games – more than anyone else in the club’s second division history.

Among others, the American “Athletic” journalist Pablo Iglesias Maurer reported that Kittel should not have passed the medical check at DC United. As a result, the MLS club refrained from an obligation. “In the end it’s good that it went that way and I’m glad I’m still here. The medical check was definitely not the issue, because my history was communicated in good time by my adviser and was known,” emphasized the 29-year-old.

HSV professional Kittel explains failed change: “It just shouldn’t be”

Kittel, who was criticized for his clearly declining performance in the season finale, continued: “In the past five years I have hardly missed any games, especially not because of my knees. In the end there were simply too many problems, everything dragged on, both sides were no longer really convinced of the transfer. It just wasn’t meant to be, which I was able to come to terms with because my heart is also in Hamburg and at HSV.”
