Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz came to Hamburger SV on loan from FC Bayern in the summer – and lost the duel with Daniel Heuer Fernandes for a regular place between the posts. The 25-year-old hasn’t played a minute for the Rothosen yet. After Israel’s international match against Norway (0:5), in which Peretz saved a penalty from top striker Erling Haaland, the keeper now found clear words about his situation at the club. He is considering an early return to Munich.
“It’s obvious that I’m disappointed that I’m not playing in Hamburg. I didn’t think I wouldn’t play. It was actually clear that I would play,” explained Peretz. He continued on the Israeli TV station “Sport 5”: “But the things that are happening right now are no longer under my control. I am responsible for my own behavior and behavior. I am fighting the situation mentally. Maybe there will be a change in January because I really want to play.”
The goalkeeper’s loan runs until the end of the season. HSV would have to agree to an early termination if this wish was pushed forward by the player. In Munich, Peretz’s working paper is dated until 2028. The professional, who was once signed as a potential successor to Manuel Neuer, has only appeared on the pitch seven times at Bayern since his move in 2023.
HSV manager Claus Costa said on Sunday in the Transfermarkt interview about the Peretz situation: “We showed him a perspective together with the coaching team, but it was also completely clear that we already have an absolute top man in ‘Ferro’. After Matheo Raab’s departure, we wanted to position ourselves at the top in terms of width, like in all other positions – if possible, also at the top. With Daniel, this has worked out for us opportunity arise. And until the end it was a really close race between the goalkeepers. The outcome is not satisfactory for him, his great disappointment was human, anything else would have surprised me too. But he has drawn strength from it, gives his all every day and has taken this competition to a new level. Daniel is an outstanding character. Peretz competitor Heuer Fernandes recommends himself in Hamburg with his previous performance for a possible contract extension. This season he conceded eight goals in eight games, keeping three clean sheets. Only Manuel Neuer and Gregor Kobel (BVB) will have a clean slate more in 2025/26. In the ranking of goalkeepers with the most HSV appearances, Heuer Fernandes is in seventh place (163 appearances) – between Frank Rost with 203 games and Jörg Butt with 161 games. With a view to the duel with Peretz for the place in goal, Heuer Fernandes said during the week: “The competition is important, it pushes everyone, it improves the level of training and that of the whole team.”
