Central defender Jonas David from Hamburger SV has apparently moved into the focus of league competitor Hansa Rostock. The Club of the Baltic Sea seeks a report of the “PictureAccording to the newspaper, a transfer from the 23-year-old, whose contract on the Elbe will expire next summer.
A loan, as rumored in the newspaper, would only be conceivable if the Hamburg home-grown player were extended prematurely. David had already made the leap to the pros with the North Germans in 2018 and has since played 59 competitive games in the jersey of the first team. During the past two seasons, the right-footer with Nigerian roots has been a regular part of the HSV defence, played 13 full-length games in the second half of last season and only missed twice.

After the commitments of Guilherme Ramos and Dennis Hadzikadunic (to the Hamburg transfer overview) and in view of the further competition from captain Sebastian Schonlau or Stephan Ambrosius, David’s chances of being used are currently considered to be low. At Hansa, however, he could close the gap in the defensive center that arose after Oliver Hüsing’s injury.
TM user “Keegan78” classifies the situation in the TM rumor mill as follows: “Jonas David is a solid central defender who, if he gets the confidence and can play alongside a strong central defender, is capable of good performances. He’s a young player who can still grow in an easier environment. It could work for Hansa, Jonas is a good boy! The fee will be small, Hansa can’t do much wrong there, especially since the player knows the second division. I would be happy to see David with our friends from Rostock!”
“If you sell it without a buyback option, then a fee in the region of 800,000 euros should be the minimum from my point of view. You should never give it away. Ideally, I would also like to see him with us in the future,” writes TM user “walker008” about the speculation. “yannicleonkapp” meanwhile says: “I’ll tie another bow around it and we’ll give away dear Jonas. As much as I am grateful to him for the goal in the derby, unfortunately his performance is or was simply not good enough for an ambitious second division team. Nevertheless, I wish him all the best in Rostock!”
