HSV ends negative run: Clear victory against Hannover 96

Double Pack Bénes

Hamburger SV has again increased the pressure on their competitors Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Heidenheim in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. With the 6:1 (2:0) in the north duel against Hannover 96 the team of coach Tim Walter ended their result crisis after three unsuccessful games. Hannover suffered a serious setback after their first win in the second half of the season a week earlier against SV Sandhausen.

After the HSV lead by Sonny Kittel (34th minute) and László Bénes (41st) in the first half, Hanover’s Derrick Köhn (52nd) scored the goal. But the hosts countered with Bénes’ second goal from the penalty spot (61′) and Robert Glatzel’s 17th goal of the season (65′). Substitute Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (76th) and Ludovit Reis (87th) made it very clear.

Thanks to the success, Hamburg advanced to second place at least until the evening game (8.30 p.m.) between 1. FC Heidenheim and FC St. Pauli. Table leaders Darmstadt 98 play against SC Paderborn on Sunday (1.30 p.m.).

Penalty in stoppage time: 1. FC Nürnberg takes a late point against Karlsruhe

1. FC Nürnberg saved a point against Karlsruher SC thanks to a late penalty goal. With 1:1 (0:1) the “Club” separated after a wild final phase from KSC. Mikkel Kaufmann (26′) gave Karlsruhe the lead before Kwadwo Duah equalized with a penalty in added time (90′ + 4′).

After falling behind, Nuremberg remained the more active team. The Karlsruhers were lucky that it wasn’t 1-1 at the break. First KSC defender Christoph Kobald cleared Duah (41′), then Marvin Wanitzek scratched a James Lawrence header off the line (42′).

After the change of sides, Karlsruhe made more for the game. There were hardly any dangerous actions in the penalty areas. Instead, the game became more and more disorganized. In the 86th minute, FCN celebrated Duah’s supposed equalizer, which was also disallowed for offside. In added time, Karlsruhe’s Marcel Franke brought down Nuremberg’s Christoph Daferner. After viewing the video images, referee Wolfgang Haslberger decided on a penalty and gave Franke the yellow-red card. After the 1:1 FCN even pressed for the winning goal – without success.

Eintracht Braunschweig wins against 1. FC Kaiserslautern thanks to Ujah

Eintracht Braunschweig celebrated an important home win in the relegation battle. The previous table-15. deservedly won 1-0 (0-0) against co-promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern and has now been unbeaten for three games. Anthony Ujah scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute. Eintracht were very lucky shortly afterwards when FCK striker Ben Zolinski shot the ball into the crossbar of an empty goal from just five meters away (82′).

The game in front of 21,143 fans was overshadowed by an apparently serious injury to Braunschweig playmaker Immanuel Pherai. The Dutchman was carried off in the 55th minute after Kaiserslautern defender Kevin Kraus hit him in the head with his shin.
