June 6, 2026Reading time: 2 minutes

Important date for HSV: The opponent in the first round of the DFB Cup will be drawn on Saturday evening. Which teams are in the draw.
In the middle of the summer break is for the HSV the first important date of the new season. The opponent for the first round of the DFB Cup will be drawn on Saturday evening. Traditionally, this is the first competitive game for the Bundesliga clubs after preparation.
Last season it ended for Hamburg in the round of 16. In the local Volksparkstadion, Merlin Polzin’s team lost to their northern rivals Holstein Kiel 3:5 in a penalty shootout. The last time HSV got really far in the competition was in 2022: Back then, the club was only eliminated in the semifinals against SC Freiburg (1:3). The last triumph was a long time ago – in 1987 HSV was able to hold the DFB Cup in its own hands for the last time.
With Rostock or Cottbus: the possible HSV opponents
As a Bundesliga club, HSV belongs to the so-called “profit pot”. This means that there will definitely be an away game in the first round – home advantage lies with the amateurs. A year ago, the “Rothosen” struggled to a 2-1 win after extra time at FK Pirmasens.
