Five-goal spectacle against Bremen
Ecstasy in Hamburg: HSV wins wild derby

A completely crazy northern derby ends with a victory for HSV. The hero of the day is the captain – with his first goal for Hamburg.
Hamburger SV retained the upper hand in a spectacular northern derby against Werder Bremen. The “Rothosen” defeated their arch rivals 3:2 (0:1) on Sunday afternoon. Substitute Yussuf Poulsen scored the decisive goal (84th minute). For the captain, who came from Leipzig in the summer, it was the first goal in the HSV jersey.
Werder took the lead in the first half through Jens Stage (45th + 1). HSV struck back in the second half through Albert Sambi Lokonga (63′), then even took the lead with a dream goal from Luka Vušković (75′). Bremen responded immediately with Justin Njinmah (78th) – then Poulsen turned the Volkspark into a madhouse.
Both teams initially sniffed each other out extensively in front of 56,100 spectators and tried not to make any big mistakes in the best bad northern German weather – Lokonga only had the first real chance to score of the game from a distance in the 39th minute. When everyone thought it would be 0-0 going into the break, Werder struck ice cold.
Hamburg’s Nicolas Capaldo lost the ball on the right during build-up play, Romano Schmid immediately passed to Stage. The Dane took advantage of the free space and deliberately scored his fifth goal of the season from around 16 meters.
Before the second half, the HSV fans set off a pyrotechnic show, and the players also came out of the dressing room with a lot of fire. Hamburg repeatedly tried to get to the top quickly and directly through Fábio Vieira. Werder fought back with a lot of passion, but Bakery Jatta still had a good opportunity on his Bundesliga season debut (55th). On the other hand, Senne Lynen tested HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes (59th).
An open exchange of blows developed. HSV put more and more pressure on, Lokonga then kept track of the equalizer in a mess in the Werder penalty area and drove the ball into the goal with force. Shortly afterwards, Vušković did it artistically – and scored with a backheel from a free kick. A “goal of the year” goal.
