Kathleen Krüger is to take over the position of sports director at Hamburger SV, which has been vacant for months. This would make her the first woman in this role in the history of the Bundesliga.
According to consistent media reports, the HSV supervisory board is said to have selected 40-year-old Kathleen Krüger as the new sports director. The former footballer currently works at FC Bayern Munich as Head of Organization and Infrastructure. A contract conclusion in Hamburg is imminent.
The “Hamburger Abendblatt” and “Sport Bild” report unanimously that Krüger should lead the board together with Eric Huwer. A headhunter agency commissioned by HSV is said to have initially contacted her. She convinced the supervisory board with her competence and her concept, according to the “Hamburger Abendblatt”.
The post has been vacant since January. At that time, HSV parted ways with Stefan Kuntz. Since then, Huwer and sports director Claus Costa have taken over his duties. According to the report, the club had also asked Frankfurt’s Markus Krösche and Stuttgart’s Fabian Wohlgemuth. The group of candidates is also said to have included Costa, former DFB director Oliver Bierhoff and Borussia Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl.
With Krüger, a woman would take over the sports directorship of a Bundesliga club for the first time. The Swiss Tatjana Haenni has been the CEO of RB Leipzig since the beginning of the year.
