At Hamburger SV the next departure is looming in midfield. After Jonas Meffert left for Kiel two weeks ago, everything points to an imminent change for Anssi Suhonen. According to “Bild”, the 25-year-old Finn will soon sign for Odense Boldklub in Denmark.

According to the paper, the medical check is planned for Friday and HSV will receive a small fee in the five-figure range six months before the end of the contract. For the homegrown player, who moved to the Hanseatic youth team shortly after his 16th birthday in January 2017, the chapter in Hamburg ends finally and without the breakthrough he had hoped for.
After a promising start to the 2021/22 season, when Suhonen contributed two goals and two assists in 18 games, his market value rose to 900,000 euros. However, the 1.75 meter tall midfielder was unable to establish himself in the starting line-up in the long term and made a total of 52 appearances in three and a half years. A loan to SSV Jahn Regensburg was supposed to help for the second half of the 2024/25 season, but it was just as unspectacular as the last one at Östers IF in Sweden.
At Odense, Suhonen is now starting a new beginning under coach Alexander Zorniger, who has several professionals who were formerly active in Germany in his squad. Fiete Arp came from Kiel in the summer, Jona Niemiec from Düsseldorf and Noah Ganaus from Regensburg. Former Werder professional Tom Trybull has been under contract since 2023.
