THE Cases of acne are on the rise. Even many celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Katy Perry do not hide that they suffer from it. This is confirmed by the data from Global Burden of Disease Study, taken up in an article of British Journal of Dermatology, saccording to which the number of cases of the skin pathology among adolescents and young adults aged between 10 and 24 has increased, from 1990 to today, by +14%. What to do?
Acne and aesthetic medicine solutions
«Even if ad hoc cosmetics are increasingly numerous and effective, for the treatment of acne I suggest avoiding do-it-yourself products», he explains Corinna RigoniPresident of Women Dermatologists Italy. “It is always better to start any treatment process by consulting a dermatologist, the only one who has the skills to define the most appropriate treatment path.”
«Aesthetic medicine treats acne with a combined approach, using peeling, LED light and laser», continues the dermatologist. In particular, one of the new generation lasers is called Accure is developed by the Italian company Quanta System, and uses an exclusive wavelength of 1,726 nanometers to selectively target the sebaceous glands, reducing sebum production and thus acting on the root cause of acne.

Aesthetic medicine protocols in general are a valid support for the treatment of acne, but they are not the solution. «On their own, peeling, LED light and laser should not be considered as a magic solution, because they are adjuvants of targeted and careful daily treatments. To be put into practice by following the specialist’s suggestions and using the targeted cosmetics correctly”, underlines Corinna Rigoni.
How to cure acne at home
«Taking care of facial acne at home is possible by using appropriate products that must be used consistently», warns Corinna Rigoni. It always starts with cleansing. «The cleanser must have a delicate formula, must not be excessively degreasing and specific for acne-prone or sensitive skin. Frequent scrubs and abrasive sponges should be avoided.”
Hydration should not be neglected. «Yes to creams and fluids because even skin with acne needs them, but it is important to choose non-comedogenic and oil-free formulations». The absence of oils in the formulations does not guarantee the ideal treatment. «The active ingredients to focus on are soothing bisabolol and exclusive purifying cocktails based on oryza sativa, niacinamide, zinc and copper».
Skin with acne needs to maintain an intact microbiome, which plays an important role in making the skin barrier efficient. «Often in this type of epidermis the defenses are fragile, and the support of post-biotics is of great support in restoring balance».
Acne and face masks: what to watch out for
For facial skin with acne, sheet masks, the so-called sheet masks, or creams with clay, salicylic and azelaic acids, and with aloe are considered a panacea. «They absorb blackheads, promote cell turnover and soothe. They are a treat for the skin to be used, however, with care”, underlines Corinna Rigoni.
First, you need to pay attention to the ingredients. «No to peel-off versions, with alcohol and mint essential oils, for example, which are irritating». Also pay attention to the correct use of these products. «Masks for acne-prone skin should be used after delicate and thorough cleansing and left on for a maximum of 10-12 minutes. The most common mistake is leaving them on the face for a long time. The occlusive action of cream masks and sheet masks creates further discomfort for acne-prone skin.”
