How new one-person councilors can still influence municipal politics

Many municipalities see new members joining the municipal council this year, from parties such as Volt, BIJ1, Party for the Animals and Forum for Democracy. One seat means that as a councilor you stand alone on behalf of the party. According to associate professor Hans Vollaard (Dutch and European politics), there are two ways to make the most of the acquired seat in local politics: through collaboration or through sharp profiling.
