How much music is in the most important film award in the world?

Gallop to the 95th Academy Awards to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (Central Pacific Time) March 12th. The LA local press is already reporting on all the busy craftsmen who potter around around the “Dolby Theater” on Hollywood Boulevard and in the other locations where glamorous Oscar (side) events also take place.

With the exception of the Corona-limited Oscars 2021, the “Dolby Theater” has been “the place to be” in the international film scene since 2002. Recently, the classic ballroom has been meaningfully renamed “Ovation Hollywood”.

If you take a look at the trade press, quite a few critics can agree on “Everything Everywhere All At Once” as “Best Film”. Co-directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, The Multiverse’s Attack on Plain Reality garnered a number of nominations, including an award for the soundtrack.

The WW1 drama “All Quiet On The Western Front”, which already won the British BAFTA Awards on February 19, is rated as having outsider chances.

Baz Luhmann’s “Elvis”, which focuses on the ascent phase of the “King”, undoubtedly represents the biopics that deal with the ongoing boom in pop history. Young Elvis actor Austin Butler is considered by insider circles to be a shadow contender for the category “Best Actor”. That would be a remarkable rise in fame for the longtime US series actor.

Elvis has already been nominated for Best Drama Movie at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. Director Luhrmann was nominated for “Best Director” at the “Globe” and Austin Butler for “Best Actor”. There are a total of eight nominations for the American rock ‘n’ roll saga at the upcoming Oscars. Furthermore, one should not underestimate the momentum that Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley recently passed away. A feeling for retro contemporary history – that could ultimately contribute to the butler role of the voting “Academy” members.

The Big Oscar Prediction:

The conductor’s film “Tár” with Cate Blanchett also plays in the ups and downs of music. Plowing the broad field of classical music, Todd Field’s psychological drama about the rise and fall of a lesbian conductor is on the agenda with six nominations.

Among the nominated Oscar movie songs (admittedly, in the subcategory segment), Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” glitters, co-written with Bloodpop from the jet fighter remake “Top Gun: Maverick” – which, in keeping with the mainstream, has five other nominations to its name could unite.

Also on the bling-bling list of nominees: Superbowl winner Rihanna, seen here performing “Lift Me Up” from the Marvel action flick Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Also listed is the short story saga Tell It Like A Woman. US composer Diane Warren received her 14th Oscar nomination for her title song “Applause”, performed by singer and actress Sofia Carson. Maybe this time it works with a trophy.

At the end, the Music Oscars come full circle to the large-scale production “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. This is where sound inventor and Talking Heads founder David Byrne recorded the atmospheric track “This Is A Life” together with Son Lux and Mitski. Maybe Byrne will soon have his second Oscar on the mantelpiece, after his score Oscar for The Last Emperor in 1988.
