David Bowie’s cause of death

On January 10, 2016, just two days after the release of his 27th album Blackstar and his 69th birthday, David Bowie died of liver cancer in New York City. He got the diagnosis in 2014. In the following months, almost no one was allowed to find out about the illness; only his family and a few close confidants knew about it.

One of them was Ivo van Hove, with whom Bowie produced the musical “Lazarus”. Van Hove told the Times: “He was sick, but he wanted to live. For his wife and his daughter and for his music”. The album “Blackstar” was the last effort that had to be accomplished. In addition to cancer, David Bowie suffered six heart attacks during this time, according to his biographer Wendy Leigh. Back in 2004, Bowie said goodbye to the live business after his first heart attack after his show at the Hurricane Festival; It was his last concert; he was only on stage for a few appearances.

ROLLING STONE editor-in-chief Sebastian Zabel wrote in David Bowie’s obituary: “David Bowie made pop history. He sold 140 million records. He was “Major Tom” and the “Thin White Duke”, in the early 70s he was the androgynous alien in a knitted bodysuit and kimono, with make-up and teased hair, who invented “Ziggy Stardust”, one of the most valid rock figures of their time.”

According to his will, Bowie’s body was cremated and the ashes were scattered on the Indonesian island of Bali according to Buddhist rites.

In March 2019, another biographer and friend, Lesley-Ann Jones, said that David Bowie was said to have used active euthanasia.

Location

David Bowie died in his New York penthouse, located in SoHo, 285 Lafayette Street, between Prince Street and Houston Street. He lived there in seclusion with his wife Iman Abdulmajid. On “Blackstar” it is said that he felt like a king when he was between these walls. He was only occasionally seen at an exhibition opening or in a jazz bar.
