The Netherlands was turned upside down when a number of very valuable Romanian art treasures were stolen from the Drents Museum in Assen during the night of 24 to 25 January. A manhunt for the perpetrators started, with the police even distributing investigative photos of the main suspects. As it turned out: the two come from Heerhugowaard.

In search of the lost art treasures, the police turned over almost every stone in the village. Without success.

A few months later, Heerhugowaard was in the news again, when an explosive went off on April 10 in an apartment on Titanialaan. Half the facade was knocked out of the residential apartment and part of the complex became uninhabitable.

‘Young people are getting crazier here’

These were major incidents, but Gary Curiel (35) and Jouke Tuinstra (38) are not really surprised. The latter has lived in Heerhugowaard since 1993. His good friend Gary also lived there for a long time, but recently moved to Alkmaar.
