Where the Weirden creatures live: Mary in the Junkyard
Braiding fools, voyeuristic moths and Yetis with tree growth. The London band Mary in the Junkyard rely on DIY aesthetics, Weirde animals and churned art rock.
“I wish you would design nightmares”, a fan under a music video of the British art rockBand commented. Would that be the young trio actually capable of something like that, it would be designs of a world in which Fools in green feather coats with a braiding look Dance through vacant houses, voyeuristic motten people watch and juicy green branches Snow -white Yetis grow from the chest. Whaaat? Yes, exactly.
The world of Mary in the Junkyard is chaotic, opaque and agitated. Clari tells about that Freeman taylors with a voice between Pertrol and wine from your own abstrusirate. Saya Barbaglia plays violin and bass and David Addison drums. All together a loud Efficuous and somewhat scary narrative strand. The newcomer band has performed at dozensten in the Windmill Brixton, that London underGround-Venue that for the rise of bands like Black Midi and The Last Dinner Party was decisive, a lot Stage experience gained. In her debut single “Tuesday” (2023), it is about the state of lost: “I feel like to alien Here / Breathing from a separate hole, ”sings Clari. Still dynaMixers they built their surrealism on the EP last year “This old house”, which like a collection of mini-art rockShower fairy tales sounds – cool, shrill, inconsistent, a feeling Loneliness hangs between stormy moments. In their The young trio deals with imaginative texts Fears of loss, complicated relationships and belonging.
So also in the new single “This is my California”, where she have worked with Craig Silvey, who is already for Sam Fender has produced. It is about his own dreams to follow, not those who are exemplified in films. The sunny southern California is for them – unlike for many AndesRe – no place of longing. You feel comfortable somewhere else. Where where It is dark and Weirde lurk. Mary in the Junkyard create with her DIY aesthetics A world of their own that is so miraculous and crazy that they are ideal for the temporary escape of reality.
