Hosts Finland early in the World Cup quarterfinals

Ice hockey Olympic champions Finland were the first team to reach the quarter-finals at the World Cup in their own country.

The hosts defeated Great Britain 6-0 (2-0, 2-0, 2-0) on Friday and took the lead in preliminary round group B with 13 points.

Latvia saved their chance for the knockout round with a 4:3 (0:0, 3:2, 0:1, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout against Austria and climbed to fifth place.

In the German group A, Slovakia, third at the Olympics, celebrated its second victory. After the 4: 3 (1: 2, 3: 0, 0: 1) against Kazakhstan, the Slovaks are fifth.

The Kazakhs are the next opponents of the German national team on Sunday (3:20 p.m. CEST/Sport1 and MagentaSport).
