The hostage situation in the penitentiary in Vught is over, reports a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Security. Two employees were taken hostage in the prison’s psychiatric department on Friday afternoon. They have been brought to safety and are receiving aftercare.
There was a large police presence outside the prison this afternoon. They would do “everything” they can to “get the situation under control as quickly as possible,” a ministry spokesperson said earlier Friday evening. A nearby street, Lunettenlaan, was partly closed, it was reported Omroep Brabant.
The PI Vught consists of a prison and a detention center. There is also an Extra Secure Facility (EBI), but it was emphatically not about the EBI.
The families of those involved have been informed. It is still unclear who the suspect is.
