Horse dead and motorist seriously injured after collision with train

A loose horse trailer was hit by a train at a railway crossing in Boxtel on Thursday evening. The driver of the car was seriously injured. One of the two horses in the trailer has died. The man’s injuries were so serious that an air ambulance was called.

The car with the horse trailer crossed at a railway crossing near the Boxtel district of Tongeren. The horse trailer suddenly came loose in the middle of the railway crossing. The driver got out of the car and tried to get the horses out of the trailer, but at that moment the trailer was hit by a train.

The man was seriously injured. One of the two horses died on the spot. The other horse was unharmed because it managed to escape from the trailer in time.

No more train traffic
Due to the collision, no more trains will run on the route between Tilburg and Boxtel for the rest of the evening and night. The train that hit the trailer came off the track with one wheel. It will therefore take some time to get the train away. About 300 passengers on that train were taken off the train around a quarter to eight and put on another train. The NS hopes that the trains on the track will run again tomorrow.

The NS previously reported that the track would be closed until at least a quarter to eleven in the evening.
