Thirty years ago, Rinus Loman started breeding horses. At a stable in Stieltjeskanaal he bought two foals and started his search for the perfect Frisian horse. Around 130 horses were born on breeding ‘Van’ t Lansink ‘and with each horse he has come a step closer to that ideal image.
On the stallion inspection for Frisian horses, he and his partner Carla Nijdam won the title ‘Fokker of the Year’.
“Then you see that screen; ‘Fokker of the Year’ is on it. There is surprise then.” Rinus and Carla also won a prize with their stallion Pelle just before and were already off the central site when the prize for Fokker of the Year was announced.
That indicates how unexpectedly the title was. “Totally surprised” confirms Carla. “And then my children and Rinus also came to his children into the ring. They all had that arranged in advance, but we knew nothing about it. A complete surprise.”
Rinus once joked that he would stop if he won the honorary title. This is called stopping at the peak. He is coming back to that now. “We keep breeding. It is our hobby, it’s our pleasure. We enjoy it.”
