The reception location at Vos van Steenwijklaan 73 in Hoogeveen will remain in use for three years longer. The current contract ran until January 1, 2026, but the municipality extended the shelter at this location until December 31, 2028.

The building has room for 238 Ukrainian refugees. This means that it has a large share in the reception of Ukrainians in the municipality, with a total of 430 shelters. “The ongoing war violence in Ukraine means that the need for reception places continues to be great,” the municipality writes.

Since the spring of 2022, Ukrainian refugees have been accommodated in the building. The building was previously used as a vaccination location during the corona period.
