The Hoogeveen municipal council has approved the renovation of Het Podium. During the budget discussion, a majority agreed to invest money in the Hoogeveen music venue.
The municipality has set aside more than one million euros for the renovation. There are plans for an improved pop hall. There is currently room for 250 visitors, but that will soon be double. This would allow larger bands and musicians to come to Hoogeveen.
The board expresses its desire to become the music venue of Drenthe.
Het Podium has been struggling with housing problems for some time and, according to the board, does not meet the requirements of a professional music venue. The layout of rooms needs to be changed, equipment needs to be replaced and the furnishings may need to be renewed.
350,000 euros were already available from the Regional Cities Fund for the renovation of the building. Together with the money from the municipality, the total amounts to approximately 1.4 million euros.
