Hoogeveen wants to expand significantly: a new residential area should be built on the south side of the A37 with room for up to 1,500 houses. An area on both sides of the Alteveer road seems most suitable for this.
The municipal council reported this in a letter to the council. About 500 houses should be built at Het Oosterveld, on the west side of the Alteveer. On the east side towards the Trekgatenweg a maximum of 1,000.
Hoogeveen has been looking for a place where spacious construction can take place for some time. If the municipal council agrees, the new district could become larger than the Erflanden, where there are currently about 1,200 houses.
Construction must start with 500 houses. The district can then expand further. The land does not yet belong to the municipality, but Hoogeveen wants to use the pre-emptive right. This means that the municipality can buy the site first if the owner wants to sell. The landowners have been informed about this.
The municipal council must still give permission to use that right. The council will decide on this within three months. There will be a meeting in De Tamboer on November 4, where council members, landowners and other stakeholders will be updated about the plans.
A budget of 450,000 euros is required for the further development of the plan. The council will also make a decision on this in the next quarter.
In April, Hoogeveen presented requirements for a new residential area: it must be possible to build quickly and the location must be within cycling distance of the center and the train station. According to the municipal council, the location meets these requirements.
The new district must offer a place for all generations. For example, houses in the higher segment, lifelong homes for seniors and starter homes for young people are being considered.
