Hoogeveen will investigate whether livestock farmers can build additional shelters for their animals. Local politicians hope that this would allow animal owners to better protect their animals against wolf attacks.
The VVD, CDA and SGP raised the idea during the council meeting on Thursday evening. The rest of the city council then agreed. Councilor Derk Reneman (Municipal Interests) announced that such an investigation can be carried out.
According to the petitioners, wolf-resistant fences offer no guarantee of stopping wolf attacks. For example, the factions argue that the animal can still crawl under it or jump over it.
The parties also say that (hobby) livestock farmers need extra protection. This could therefore be possible with options for building additional shelters or night shelters on your own property.
Politicians want the municipality to let us know what the options are within ten weeks. Councilor Reneman agreed.
