After a traffic advice, the municipality does not opt for a pedestrian crossing, as for example, municipal interests. The crossing gets a center conductor. “This offers the most safe option, because pedestrians can make the crossing in two phases, so that they can stop and estimate the situation again,” writes the mayor and aldermen. “This increases safety for all road users, including cyclists, parents with children and people in a wheelchair.”

According to the college, the construction of the crossing also requires adjustments to the adjacent parking area. Even before the summer there is talk with entrepreneurs and users. After the summer a choice is made for the design. Hoogeveen wants the crossing place to be finished at the latest at the latest.

The Commission does not intend to paint a few white stripes on the road in the short term. “In the meantime, it is clear that a pedestrian crossing can create false safety on a busy road such as the Griendtsveenweg. Pedestrians expect priority, while motorists may notice a pedestrian crossing too late due to the crowds.”
