Chinese president: agreement with Trump on trade

China and the United States have reached an agreement on trade after talks between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. Xi said this after the meeting in the South Korean city of Busan.

“The economic and trade teams of both countries held in-depth discussions on major economic and trade issues and reached a consensus on their resolution,” Xi said. The two world leaders from the world’s two largest economies spoke during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

“Both teams should refine and complete follow-up work as quickly as possible, maintain and implement consensus, and deliver tangible results to provide reassurance to the economies of China, the United States and the world,” the Chinese president added.

Trump said he had a “great meeting” with Xi, which led to a relaxation in relations between the two countries.
Xi also said China and the US should not enter a “vicious circle of retaliation.” According to him, relations between the two countries have remained generally stable, and trade ties should serve as a “ballast” in that relationship.

During his talks with Trump in South Korea, Xi called on both sides to remain focused on the long-term importance of cooperation.
