A vision that goes beyond simple technological progression and redesigns the shapes, sensations and language of two wheels: the Japanese giant anticipates what we could ride tomorrow
It is now clear: in the two-wheel sector, Honda it is not simply testing the terrain of electric propulsion, it is tackling it decisively and with an articulated strategic vision. After announcing its plan to launch a couple of years ago 30 new models with zero emissions, between motorbikes and scooters, by 2030, the Golden Wing house is moving from words to deeds. The small Cuv e scooter has already entered the price list, the Wn7, its first true electric motorcycle unveiled at Eicma, is about to join it, while the EV Urban Concept has anticipated its vision for maxi-scooters zero emissions. To the recent Japan Mobility Show 2025Honda has however added a new piece to this journey, probably the most ambitious: it’s called Ev Outlier Concepta name that not surprisingly recalls something that breaks the mold and knows no boundaries.
A project that was born “electric”
—
This EV Outlier Concept, in fact, is not a simple electric motorcycle. It’s quite a mission statementan exercise in style and, above all, content, which aims to question different historical paradigms of motorcycling. It is not born from the conversion of a traditional model to electric traction, nor does it have the aim of replacing endothermic combustion motorcycles. It is rather a project that starts “electric” right from its origin and that uses this condition as a lever to rethink shapes, proportions anddriving experience offered by a two-wheeled vehicle, without any constraints imposed by the past: this approach also clearly emerges on an aesthetic level.
A new stylistic language
—
In fact, right from the first glance, the EV Outlier Concept explicitly breaks every convention, while remaining consistent with the stylistic language chosen by Honda for its electric motorbikes, called Precision of Intrinsic Design. A family feeling already introduced with Ev Urban and Wn7, but which with the Outlier is raised to a higher level to generate a vehicle that intends to trace an autonomous path for the evolution of battery-powered two-wheelers.
Developed on 3 basic concepts
—
According to Honda, the real heart of the project is the driving experience, even more than the technical specifications. There are three concepts that define the soul of the EV Outlier Concept: Gliding, Ecstasy and Low. Glidingwhich can be translated as “graceful”, alludes to the typical fluidity of electric vehicles, i.e. silent and linear driving in which braking, travel and acceleration follow one another without interruption. Ecstasy instead it represents the pure pleasure of electric traction: immediate response, torque always available and a direct and instinctive connection between man and machine. Lowfinally, it refers to the lowered driving position, which revises traditional ergonomics and contributes to keeping the center of gravity low, influencing the perception of speed and control of the vehicle.
Technologically sophisticated
—
Consistent with its futuristic vocation, the EV Outlier Concept is also a concentrate of technology. Traditional mirrors, for example, leave room for integrated cameras, connected to a large and very thin dashboard that guarantees an extensive and clean view. This particular instrumentation, baptized Graphical User Interfacealso provides real-time information on the lean angle and power delivered by the electric motor, thus making the driving experience even more immersive. Understandably, in light of the still experimental nature of the project, the complete technical details have not yet been revealed, but it is clear that we are faced with a motorcycle that aims to break with the past
the project leader
—
At the basis of the EV Outlier Concept is a creative process that deeply reflects Honda culture. Japanese and international designers have worked together through the Waigayaa term that implies an open discussion without hierarchies to encourage the free exchange of ideas and the questioning of certainties. The project was led by Yuya Tsutsumi, Large Project Leader Honda, who summarized the philosophy behind the concept as follows: “The electrification of motorbikes is still in its infancy. There are no points of reference and it is precisely in this uncertainty that Honda’s strengths emerge. We eliminated existing values and asked ourselves what uniqueness could arise only thanks to electrification: it all started from there”.

Honda’s mission
—
With theEv Outlier ConceptHonda demonstrates its desire to go beyond the simple energy transition, taking the opportunity offered by the electric transition to deeply rethink the very concept of the motorcycle. A commitment that is not limited to eliminating Co2 emissions, but which embraces new technical and conceptual solutions, as also demonstrated by the V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype, presented at Eicma: a prototype that explores new avenues by combining thermal propulsion and electrification. As one might expect from the world’s largest manufacturer, Honda intends drive change designing the forms of tomorrow’s mobility today, and the European Union’s recent reversal on electric propulsion in theautomotive it doesn’t seem destined to undermine this new course.
