A 64-year-old homeless man collapsed in Berlin during a police operation for accommodation and now needs intensive care.

According to the police on Thursday, the incident happened on September 14th.

On Thursday evening, when asked by the dpa, the police initially gave no information as to why the incident was announced with a delay of more than a week.

► On the day of the incident, according to the police, the emergency services wanted to enforce a court-issued accommodation order in the Falkenhagener Feld district in the Spandau district.

Accordingly, caregivers and nursing staff at the homeless home first tried to convince the 64-year-old to go with them. Since the man had become increasingly angry, the previously informed police forces had been asked for support, the message said.

The 64-year-old defended himself against being taken with kicks, punches and attempts to bite. According to police reports, he had to be handcuffed. He was led outside, where he continued to resist massively.

According to the police, he collapsed in the presence of supervisors and the rescue service. The handcuffs were then released “immediately”. The man was resuscitated and then transported to a clinic.

The 64-year-old is being treated in intensive care, it said. A specialist commissioner of the State Criminal Police Office is investigating the causes of the collapse.
