The North Hesse Bundesliga team beat Benfica Lisbon 28:26 (14:12) in their own hall on Tuesday evening. The Melsungers did not show their best handball in their fourth competitive game success in a row, but they did show such a concentrated performance that they largely had the Portuguese under control.
At the start of the second half, the hosts had gained a four-goal lead, which they maintained for a long time. It was only in the last five minutes that Benfica came within two goals, and things became unnecessarily exciting from Melsunger’s point of view. In the end it was enough to win at home.
