How does it live as Germany’s fairy tale queen? Heikedine Körting dropped over 500 million cassettes, CDs and LPs as the head of the European Laboratory radio player-slightly less than the Beatles, as much as Elvis and more than ABBA. And that alone with spoken stories, such as “Hanni and Nanni”, “Die Teufelskicker” or “Hui Buh”, whose rusty ghost rattle chain is still used in recordings.
This year there were two anniversaries to celebrate at Körting. Europe was 60, Körting himself 80 years old. Rolling Stone and the partner podcast of our house, “Plastic in the ear”, visited Rotherbaum in their villa in Hamburg and talked to her about an eventful life: How difficult it was to be taken seriously as a woman in the industry, or what challenges radio play production must be in the age of streaming and artificial intelligence to remain relevant.
Körting does not have to worry: “The three ???” For example, there have already been 232 episodes, and the radio play appearances of the three spokesman Oliver Rohrbeck, Jens Wawrczeck and Andreas Fröhlich tens of thousands to the open-air stages. Sony Music, to which the European label belongs, has recently reported that 51 percent of all radio plays sold in Germany come from Europe.
Our portrait: soon in the Rolling Stone
In the Rolling Stone you will soon read our detailed portrait of Heikedine Körting. On all streaming platforms, the first of two episodes of the “plastic in the ear” podcast is available, in which the colleagues Torsten Diersen and Olli Schultze speak to her for 90 minutes-and elicit one or the other secret to “The Three?”, “TKKG” or “Five Friends”. Episode one is available in the player at the top.
