Before the season, Jonas Meffert (31) was appointed one of the deputy captains at HSV. He was only rarely able to perform the role; in the few games that the former Kieler was allowed to play from the start since Hamburg’s promotion. His loss of importance with the Rothosen could now lead to a departure from the Hanseatic city – possibly back to KSV Holstein.

Transfermarkt can confirm information from “Football Europe” that Kiel can imagine the defensive midfielder returning. The storks are fundamentally interested in Meffert. The Cologne native is also said to be open to a comeback on the fjord. According to “Bild”, the player’s agent recently contacted HSV to check their willingness to make a winter change.
After the current season, Meffert could move on a free transfer. Then his contract expires. It is considered unlikely that HSV could have an interest in saying goodbye. But if Meffert approached his long-time employer, Hamburg would probably not put any obstacles in the player’s way.
Meffert, who trained at Bayer Leverkusen, was under contract in Kiel for three years before moving to the then second division rivals in Hamburg in 2021. KSV went up to the Bundesliga in 2024. At HSV, Meffert had to wait another year for this success.
However, as is now evident, the House of Lords did not have the right perspective. With one starting eleven appearance (in the 1:4 loss in Hoffenheim), Meffert was only granted just under 150 minutes of playing time over four games in the Bundesliga. In the DFB Cup there was another game from the start and two substitutions, including in the elimination against former club Kiel. In total, Meffert played 146 competitive games for HSV. For Kiel he is four games short of breaking the 100 game mark. In the most recent Bundesliga market value update, Meffert’s valuation was reduced to just 800,000 euros.
