Holstein Kiel starts the new second division season at SC Paderborn. The KSV will be about gaining a foothold in the league quickly. The “storks” are not an automatic ascent aspirant, as the data also show.

Every beginning is difficult, it is said. And especially for everyone, this may apply-at least if you look at many relegates to many Bundesliga relegations in recent years and their (new) start in the 2nd league. Regardless of whether seven years ago the HSV or in the meantime Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hannover 96, Hertha BSC or SC Paderborn: They all – or still have – struggled to leave the lower house again.

“Storks” with a significantly changed squad

Now Holstein Kiel will start in this “project” as one of the two relegated team of the previous season on Saturday (1 p.m., in the NDR LIVENCENTER) in Paderborn. And that with a team whose face is significantly different than in the pre -season on the Beletage.

The departures of regular players such as Shuto Machino (to Mönchengladbach), Nicolai Remberg (to HSV) or Timo Becker (Schalke 04) are opposed to Stefan Schwab, Jonas Thermelsen, Kasper Davidsen and Mladen Cvjetinovic.

Trainer Rapp “very satisfied”

“I know in which spheres we move, but I’m very satisfied with our squad,” says coach Marcel Rapp. Sports Managing Director Olaf Rebbe adds: “We trust this team and are convinced that our new captain Steven (Steven Skrzybski, D.Red.) Together with its representatives, the team will lead excellently and continue to form a unit. “

However, according to the analysis of the Global Soccer Networks (GSN) experts, the team around the veteran belongs, according to the data “in the upper half of the table” of the 2nd league. However, it has a moderate distance from the performance “compared to the absolute top teams such as Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hertha BSC or Hannover 96. Means: At 59.41, the GSN index is just one point above the league average (58.42), but also a counter behind the tip.

KSV for expert Terodde one of the promotion candidates

An analysis that coincides with statements by coach Rapp (“other clubs have significantly more money and want to rise”) or second division record goal scorer Simon Terodde. He sees “not one” promotion favorite, but finds: “Hertha BSC may stick out a bit.” The 37-year-old believes that the league will be “definitely more balanced” after the climbing of his ex-clubs HSV and Cologne.

He names Holstein Kiel as one of the candidates. For the GSN analysts, the KSV has “a powerful, well-structured squad that is competitive but not dominant in the league comparison” despite the relatively large changes.

Kiel further in the usual system

The experts will continue to have a rap, and continue to have it played in 3-4-1-2- or in the 3-5-2 system. The formations stand for central compactness, wide wing game and a double tip. Furthermore, one of the key features of the KSV game: targeted switching to balls.

“Other clubs are a favorite. We’ll see each other.”

KSV coach Marcel Rapp

The coach has to master challenges in the size of the squad, among other things. It offers him – as of now – 33 professionals a big depth, the high number of players complicates homogeneity and roles and will also demand rapp as a moderator in a communicative point of view.

Goalkeeper decision still open

And he will be challenged in this role before the start of the season when it comes to committed to one number one in the goal. Jonas Krumrey (RB Salzburg) and Timon Weiner fight for the place between the posts of the “storks”. “We are talking about two goalkeepers, both of whom are entitled to play,” said Rapp. The 46-year-old would have no “abdominal pain, to let everyone play. From this you are spoiled for choice. This is something nice, but in the end only one can play and we will tell the boys.”

They are convinced of their quality of the fjord – not without reason – and yet the success of the season will also depend on how the (back) switch to the 2nd league after the one -year Bundesliga tip visit is possible.

Kiel's goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey catches a ball in front of an opponent.

The second division team completes his training camp in the USA. The KSV professionals sweat on the lawn and experience a lot away from it.

Kiel can be “serious competitor” above

For the analysts of the Global Soccer Networks, “the promotion race is not excluded, but depends on high internal constancy and happiness”. In particular, this includes permanently good performance in the position behind the tips. Because while the basic defensive structure is good, the KSV on the offensive is “heavily dependent on the form of individual players”.

However, “the fine -tuning succeeds, Holstein Kiel can become a serious competitor in the upper third of the table”. He doesn’t think so in the long term, “says new captain Skrzybski:” I’m glad that it starts again. ” And all the beginning or the beginning is known enough.

Possible lists:

Paderborn: Seimen – Hoffmeier, Scheller, Brackelmann – Curda, Hansen, Klaas, Obermair – Bätzner, Bilibija
Kiel: Weiner – Cvjetinovic, Zec, Ivezic – Porath, Davidsen, Schwab, Tolkin – Bernhardsson, Thermelsen, Skrzybski
