After the death of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, Hollywood mourns the couple. Some of the deceased’s closest friends, including Billy Crystal, Albert Brooks, Martin Short and Larry David, released a joint statement of condolence. Numerous other stars expressed their condolences and remembered the two.
Statement on the death of the Reiner couple
“Rob Reiner, who learned everything from his father Carl and his mentor Norman Lear, was not only a great comedian, but also a master storyteller. No other director had such a range. From comedy to drama to mockumentary to documentary, he was always at his best. He charmed audiences. They trusted him. Viewers lined up to see his films,” said the statement, first published by AP News Agency.
“His comedic talent was incomparable, his love for the perfect musical expression of dialogue and his ability to add poignancy to a drama were simply elegant,” it continues. The statement comes from the director’s inner circle and was signed, among others, by author Alan Zeibel, composer Marc Shaiman, director Barry Levinson and former US ambassador James Costos.
Other stars pay tribute
Expressions of grief came not only from those closest to the couple. Numerous Hollywood stars spoke out. Actor Kevin Bacon posted an emotional video on Instagram in which he tearfully found positive words about the director. The big late-night shows in the USA also paid tribute: Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers remembered Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner in their shows. Other companions such as Zooey Deschanel and Kiefer Sutherland also expressed their sadness.
Even the famous Katzs Deli in New York paid tribute to the filmmaker. The most famous scene from Rob Reiner’s classic “Harry and Sally” was filmed there.

Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on the night of Sunday, December 14, 2025. Her son Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of murder and is suspected of killing his parents in a knife attack.
