Hofmann suffers a cruciate ligament rupture

The former javelin vice European champion Andreas Hofmann has torn his cruciate ligament and has to end the season.

“I’ve had tough days since last Sunday. I tore the anterior cruciate ligament in my left knee while warming up while throwing the javelin,” wrote the 31-year-old from Mannheim on Instagram. “I immediately felt something was wrong, fell to the ground and put my knee to my chest. It felt awful.”

“I will not be able to avoid an operation”

In the next week he wants to discuss with a knee specialist how to proceed. “I will not be able to avoid an operation,” explained Hofmann. “I’ll come back (again), I promise.”

He missed out on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to an elbow operation. At the World Championships in Eugene/USA last year, he was eliminated from qualifying with three invalid attempts due to back problems.
